Nick Gerhart is a well-known leader in the industry that brings valuable experience in corporate strategy, regulation, law and compliance, government affairs and innovation to his multiple roles. As an executive for Homesteaders Life Company and Farm Bureau Financial Services, Nick is focused on legal considerations, innovation, modernization, and the oversight of several other departments. Nick also served as Iowa’s Insurance Commissioner, heading up one of the largest domestic insurance states in the nation.
Nick has been a mentor and advisor to numerous insurers and insurtech startup ventures, including Carpe Data, Gain Compliance, and the Global Insurance Accelerator (GIA), in addition to recently joining the Board of Directors at Sureify after spending several years providing strategic guidance to the company.
Nick also donates his time to numerous charitable organizations including Variety – the Children’s Charity of Iowa, ChildServe and Balance Autism.
Yu-kai Chou is an Author and International Keynote Speaker on Gamification and Behavioral Design. He is the Original Creator of the Octalysis Framework, and the author of Actionable Gamification: Beyond Points, Badges, and Leaderboards. He is currently President of The Octalysis Group and the Founder of Octalysis Prime, a Gamified Mentorship Platform. Yu-kai has been a regular speaker/lecturer on gamification and motivation worldwide, including at organizations like Google, Stanford University, LEGO, Tesla, TEDx, Boston Consulting Group, Turkish Airline, Huawei, the governments of UK, Singapore, South Korea, Kingdom of Bahrain, and many more. His work has affected over 1 Billion users’ experiences across the world.
Yu-kai was one of the earliest pioneers in Gamification, starting his work in the industry in 2003. In 2015, Yu-kai was rated #1 among the “Gamification Gurus Power 100” by RISE, and was also awarded the “Gamification Guru of the Year” Award in 2014, 2015 and 2017 by the World Gamification Congress and the Gamification Europe Conference. He has helped a variety of companies, from seed stage startups to Fortune 500 companies such as LEGO, Uber, Volkswagen/Porsche, Sberbank, eBay, Fidelity Investments, AIG Japan, Verizon, and more. His work has been featured in Forbes, The Wall Street Journal, Business Insider, The World Journal, PBS, NBC, and many more.
Previously, Yu-kai was the Chief Experience Officer of the Blockchain company Decentral, working with the Co-Founder of Ethereum Anthony Di Iorio to create delightful Blockchain experiences. Yu-kai sits as a Board Advisor for many organizations and companies throughout North America, Europe, and Asia, including HatchPad.co (crowdfunding site for young entrepreneurs), Capfields (IT Sourcing company based in Luxembourg), DreamsCloud (biggest company that gathers dreams), Ongo (gamified health platform), BALANCE Edutainment (creators of Pacha’s Pajamas), Loki Studios (creators of Geomon and sold to Yahoo), Clade (crowdfunding platform for the superclass), and many more.
Yu-kai is a follower of Christ, and his other hobbies include playing/teaching chess, writing/playing string quartet pieces, supporting his Esports Team, rating high-quality movies, though he rarely has time for these hobbies. Yu-kai is the proud father of his twin daughters, Symphony and Harmony.
Dustin Yoder is an insurtech entrepreneur dedicated to creating the next generation of insurance sales, service, and policyholder engagement. The son of a top Silicon Valley insurance broker, Dustin found his passion during his high school days working at the family brokerage and quality testing early benefits software. That experience brought him into the insurtech arena in 2012, making him an early leader in the space.
As a young business visionary, Dustin built, and eventually sold, Vendus Product Labs, an enterprise product development company that served clients such as Genentech, Stanford University, and Honda.
Following that success, he formed Sureify with a goal of revitalizing life insurance for the end consumer. This endeavor took him through twists, turns, and the occasional fall, but it ultimately landed him in a position of influence in the insurance space, enabling leading insurers digitally from the inside out.
Dustin’s passion for bettering the life insurance industry has not waned. He continues using his entrepreneurial spirit, product mindset, and insurance enterprise experience to meaningfully impact the industry his father started in 40 years ago.
Dustin holds a BS in finance from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo. He lives with his wife and daughter in San Jose, CA.
As a Senior Product Manager, Wenwen leads the product development efforts for Sureify’s LifetimeEngage, which allows insurance carriers to build lasting digital relationships with policyholders. Wenwen brings a wealth of knowledge in both insurance and technology to Sureify, having worked at John Hancock, Amazon and a few other startups. Her expertise includes product management, mobile app engagement, and machine learning recommendations to enhance personalization.
Wenwen has an MBA from MIT Sloan School of Management, and a Bachelor in Computer Science from the University of Toronto. In her spare time, she enjoys badminton, frisbee and watching cooking shows.
Betty joined AAA Life Insurance Company as Chief Marketing Officer in November, 2013. She brought leadership experience from the financial services industry as well as and AAA club familiarity. Betty led the marketing as Sr. Vice President & Chief Marketing Officer at The Auto Club Group from 2004 – 2013. Her responsibilities crossed Membership, Travel, Property & Casualty Insurance and Banking. Prior to joining AAA, Betty held a variety of leadership positions during her 14 year tenure at Discover Financial Services.
Betty is responsible for AAA Life’s direct sales and lead generation initiatives including direct mail and digital marketing. She guides the sales and service functionality of AAALife.com and supports our field agencies with a telephone support center, field training and communications experts. She directs the Company’s product development efforts across all channels in order to bring valuable benefits to AAA Members. Betty also serves as our liaison with AAA club marketing and sales leaders to promote the value and benefits of AAA Life Insurance and ensure coordination of marketing efforts.
Betty is a graduate from the University of Illinois with a Bachelor of Science degree in Marketing.
Jim Kerley’s background includes more than 40 years of professional experience in the financial services industry, including nearly 25 years with New England Financial (now part of MetLfe). He was also a founding partner of Trinity Communications before establishing Clearview Partners.
Jim formed Clearview Partners with the goals of connecting insurance executives and ideas
in transformative ways, providing strategic insights in a rapidly changing environment, and
consulting, coaching and collaborating with insurers interested in taking the necessary next
steps into modernization.
Lori Serrano is the Director of Operations at Modern Woodmen of America. Lori is primarily responsible for providing direction and oversight to the Operation Managers within Underwriting, Claim, Members’ Service and Service Center Departments.
This year marks Leah White, Director of Marketing at Modern Woodmen of America, 18th year with the organization. Leah is a proud alum of the University of Iowa (go Hawkeyes!) with degrees in Business and Asian Languages and Literatures: Japanese. She started in customer retention and has held multiple positions in marketing before being named director in 2018. Leah’s area includes Products, Field Communication and Advertising and Sales Support teams.
Leah lives in Davenport, Iowa and their “White house” is fun and full with her husband of 16 years, 12 year old daughter, 9 year old son and 9 month old kitten!
